Current Event #7:Rosie the Riveter Dies

Rosalind P. Walter, the  original inspiration for "Rosie the Riveter"  and longtime PBS supporter, died Wednesday at the age of 95.  WNET in New York City, announced Walter's death in a statement Thursday, March 5, 2020. Walter was a longtime trustee for the station who gave support for a number of WNET series through the Rosalind P. Walter Foundation. "Walter cared deeply about the quality and educational value of public television and understood the importance of reaching the broadest possible audience," the station said.  At the age of 19, she spent a year as a night-shift welder at the Sikorsky aircraft plant at Bridgeport, Connecticut, inspiring the 1943 song "Rosie the Riveter," according to WNET.  The song went on to define a generation of women during World War II who entered the workforce to help keep the war effort afloat as men fought on the front lines.  Walter served as a board member on a number of organizations in the New York City

Current Event #7:Accidental Shooting

Cheektowaga, New York- Cheektowaga Police say a pistol was accidentally fired in Texas De Brazil just before 6 pm Thursday, March 5,2020.  19-year-old Anthony Ciccarelli of Tonawanda reached into the front pocket of his pants as he received the bill and accidentally fired the gun.  The gunshot hit his girlfriend in the upper leg.  Police tell News 4 the couple left the restaurant attempting to get medical care.  While on the way, Ciccarelli pulled into a plaza parking lot at Walden Avenue and Galleria Drive. The girlfriend called Cheektowaga Police requesting medical assistance.  Officers placed a tourniquet on her leg when they arrived.  She’s at ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.  Cheektowaga Police charged Ciccarelli with first-degree reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. Current Event #6:Nazi Guard

A Tennessee man who served as an armed guard at a concentration camp in Nazi Germany during World War II was ordered deported to Germany, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday. Friedrich Karl Berger, a German citizen, was ordered to be removed from the United States by an immigration judge in Memphis. U.S. Immigration Judge Rebecca L. Holt made the ruling after a two-day trial "on the basis of his service in Nazi Germany in 1945 as an armed guard of concentration camp prisoners in the Neuengamme Concentration Camp system," according to a statement from the Department of Justice. About 100,000 people were imprisoned in the Neuengamme system between 1938 and 1945, and at least 42,900 were killed,  according to the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial . Berger served at a Neuengamme sub-camp near Meppen, Germany, where prisoners were “Jews, Poles, Russians, Danes, Dutch, Latvians, French, Italians, and political opponents” of the Nazis, according to the

Hong Kong (CNN)- A strict ban on the consumption and farming of wild animals is being rolled out across China in the wake of the deadly coronavirus epidemic , which is believed to have started at a wildlife market in Wuhan. Although it is unclear which animal transferred the virus to humans bat, snake and pangolin have all been suggested China has acknowledged it needs to bring its lucrative wildlife industry under control if it is to prevent another outbreak. In late February, it slapped a temporary ban on all farming and consumption of "terrestrial wildlife of important ecological, scientific and social value," which is expected to be signed into law later this year. Current Event #4:Graphic Images of Kobe's Helicopter Crash Shown at Bar

Los Angeles, California- A written complaint was sent in just 3 days after the death of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and seven others. A young Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was showing gruesome photos taken at the scene of the helicopter crash of the crash and bodies at the Baja California and Grill in Norwalk.  “He was working the day the helicopter went down and took pictures of the crash sites and bodies,” the author wrote. The report was filed just after midnight on a contact form on the Sheriff’s Department’s website, generated an email to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, a team that handles media requests. From that point on, for nearly five weeks, the leadership of the Sheriff’s Department tried to keep a lid on the episode instead of following the normal investigative protocols even after determining that several more deputies had obtained photos, according to interviews. Current Event #3:Newport Homicide

Newport, Maine - Frederick Allen,40, has been charged with the murder of 37 year old wife Anielka Allen. State police say it was a domestic violence homicide. Newport police were called to the scene at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 9. Anielka Allen’s body was taken to the state medical examiner’s off in Augusta where an autopsy is expected to take place Friday January 10th. Frederick Allen was arrested Thursday afternoon and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday. Frederick and Anielka Allen had been living in the 16 North St. home since 2012. Anielka Allen’s death was the first homicide of 2020.

Current Event #2:Milford Man charged with Burning Ex's Belongings

Justing Loring, 26, was arrested on August 1st for burning ex girlfriends belongings. He pleaded no contest. but has been ordered to serve 2 weeks in jail as of November 6th. The woman was not there at the time. Authorities say the case involved his brother.   I relate to this current event because it was aunt whose stuff was burned. They have 3 children together. Justin was intoxicated at the time, when he was supposed to be clean and going to AA meetings. She knew he had done this because he had sent my aunt, Christian a video of him burning her belongings. At the time she was not there because they had gotten into a big fight and she was staying at her parents where she was living, along with me. She had shown me the video, just days prior she had been staying at his house with their 3 children and me and my sister. when we were there they got into a fight and we left. They had been on and off for years since they had a child together, he was always her rebound.
